Here to There? How? Occasionally Lost

You've gotten brave. You're taking the unbeaten path. Just a heads up, but you are about to feel lost. It won't last forever. The road will rise to meet you and possibly disappear again. But first, establish where you are and where you want to go. Keeping your vision in mind and taking the next small but thoughtful step will get you there.

High Five: Five tips for making it happen

Get a plan.

You might not stick to it, but still get one. Jot down what you think you need to get to your destination. Too hard? Start with why you think you can’t. Then see if that’s true by speaking to a reliable source who is doing or has happily done what you want to do. Don’t think you know anyone? Begin by asking around. You never know.

Prepare For Success.

We take precautions in case we fail. But how often do we plan for success? Rarely. Then we are scrambling. Let’s not do that. Have the resume ready. Determine who your business or organization serves and why you’re doing what you do. You might find yourself in an elevator with someone who needs your service or product. Make room for opportunity.

Survey the landscape.

Identify where your target audience might go to fulfill the need you're addressing. If you're starting, your competitors might be a little more polished than you. Don't panic. There is enough room for everyone. What's working for them? What isn't it? Where are some areas they could improve? Are there places/niches you can fill that they aren't addressing? You'll likely feel empowered rather than defeated by your new knowledge

Know who you are?

Suppose you are walking in the woods alone. Suddenly, you see someone approaching. Whether you’re the nosey type of not, your first thought will be, “Who is that?” They’re likely thinking the same. Now you need to be ready to answer the question, “Who are you, and what are you doing here?”

Pack lightly

You'll need light, warmth, nourishment, and a compass. Illuminate your path with research, MMP Easy Introduction, and a confidant who has been where you're trying to go. Nourish yourself by celebrating successes and failures. Find warmth in an encouraging person and empowering stories. When feeling lost, your compass will be your vision and having a list of reasons you can succeed.
